The world that we live in today is much different than it was in a little while ago. In fact, only 50 years ago it was a far different world. The youth of today face mush different challenges than the youth of 50 years ago. In fact, the challenges are far different than only five and ten years ago.
One of the main things that has infiltrated our society far more than it ever has is drugs. It seems common place for kids and adults alike to be involved in drugs today. It was not that long ago when the drug addict kid was the minority, but now that person seems to be in the majority.
A lot of the resources of our society on a federal, state, city and school level are used to prevent drug use and rehabilitate those that have fallen into the snare of drugs. It is a very hard thing for them to recover from and get past. Once in the snares of drug use it becomes a tangled web that is very difficult to get out of and untangle.
Some argue that we spend too much time and money on those that have already gotten involved. They claim that they made the choice and the families of these kids should be paying for all of their recovery. However, as a society we have a vested interest in the well being of our youth. These are the people that will lead our world when we are older and facing the challenges of old age. It will be them who can make the policies that will either help or hurt us. We need to rehabilitate and save all that we can.
